12070-08-5 Usage

Description

Titanium carbide (TiC) is an extremely hard, crystalline solid with a gray metallic color. It has a resistivity of 60 μΩ·cm at room temperature and is insoluble in water but soluble in nitric acid and aqua regia. Titanium carbide is known for its high tensile and compressive strengths, hardness, and oxidation resistance, making it a valuable material in various industries.

Uses

1. Used in Cutting Tool Industry:
Titanium carbide is used as an additive with tungsten carbide to make high-temperature cutting tools, arc-melting electrodes, cermets, and coating dies for metal extrusion (0.2 mil film by vapor deposition). It enhances the performance and durability of these tools due to its high hardness and resistance to thermal shock.
2. Used in Cement and Abrasive Industry:
Titanium (IV) carbide (TiC) is used as an additive to carbide to make cements, abrasives, and coatings. Its hardness and wear resistance contribute to the effectiveness of these products in various applications.
3. Used in Wear-Resistant Tools and Optics:
Titanium carbide is used in the manufacture of wear-resistant tools, cutting tools, and as a coating for abrasive steel bearings. It is also utilized in the form of nano titanium carbide ceramic in optics applications, where its properties enhance the performance of optical components.
4. Used in Conductivity Enhancement and Nucleating Agent:
Titanium carbide is employed to enhance the conductivity of materials and serves as a nucleating agent, improving the properties of various products in different industries.
5. Used in High-Temperature Service:
In a molybdenum and nickel matrix, titanium carbide is formulated for high-temperature service. Its high tensile and compressive strengths, hardness, and oxidation resistance at 1093°C make it suitable for critical parts in welding, thermal metalworking tools, valves, seals, and high-temperature gauging equipment.

Flammability and Explosibility

Nonflammable

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 12070-08-5 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 1,2,0,7 and 0 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 0 and 8 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 12070-08:
(7*1)+(6*2)+(5*0)+(4*7)+(3*0)+(2*0)+(1*8)=55
55 % 10 = 5
So 12070-08-5 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
