Description

Beryllium selenide, with the molecular formula BeSe and a molecular weight of 87.9722 g/mol, is a compound that can be synthesized by reacting beryllium and selenium elements at approximately 650°C in an inert atmosphere. It has a CAS number of 12232-25-6 and crystallizes in the zincblende unit cell with a lattice parameter of 5.1521 ?. Belonging to the space group F43m-Td2, beryllium selenide is not very stable in air and tends to hydrolyze with moisture, producing toxic H2Se gas. Despite its wide band gap, its instability has limited its use as a standalone semiconductor.
