General Description
Dodecanethiol, also known as n-dodecanethiol or DDTS, is a long-chain alkyl thiol consisting of a 12-carbon alkyl chain attached to a thiol group. It is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a garlic-like odor, and it is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents. Dodecanethiol is widely used as a surface modifier and stabilizer in the synthesis of nanoparticles, particularly gold nanoparticles, due to its strong affinity for metal surfaces. It is also used in the production of self-assembled monolayers, corrosion inhibitors, and as a chemical intermediate in organic synthesis. Additionally, dodecanethiol has applications in lubricant additives, adhesives, and in the manufacturing of electronic materials.
