Description

Hypobromous acid, also known as "bromanol" or "hydroxidobromine," is a weak, unstable acid with the chemical formula HBrO. It features a bromine atom in the +1 oxidation state and shares similar chemical and physical properties with hypochlorous acid, HClO. Hypobromous acid is only found in solution and partially dissociates into the hypobromite anion (BrO-) and the cation (H+) in aqueous solution. The salts derived from hypobromous acid are called hypobromites, which are also unstable and undergo a disproportionation reaction when evaporated or boiled to dryness, resulting in the formation of respective bromate and bromide salts.

Uses

1. Used in the Water Treatment Industry:
Hypobromous acid is used as a bactericide for disinfecting water, effectively eliminating harmful bacteria and ensuring the safety of water supplies.
2. Used in the Environmental Protection Industry:
Hypobromous acid is used as a wastewater disinfectant, helping to treat and clean wastewater before it is released back into the environment, reducing the risk of water pollution and protecting aquatic ecosystems.
3. Used in the Chemical Industry:
Hypobromous acid and its salts, known as hypobromites, are utilized in various chemical processes due to their unique properties and reactivity. The disproportionation reaction of hypobromites can be harnessed to produce bromate and bromide salts, which have their own applications in different industries.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 14380-62-2 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 1,4,3,8 and 0 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 6 and 2 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 14380-62:
(7*1)+(6*4)+(5*3)+(4*8)+(3*0)+(2*6)+(1*2)=92
92 % 10 = 2
So 14380-62-2 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Spectra and rate constants of reactions were measured of chlorine and bromine atoms formed by photolysis of aqueous solutions of hypochlorous and hypobromous acids and their salts with light of wavelength 248.5 and 308 nm.Chlorine and bromine atoms in aqueous solution behave like weak oxygen acids showing the pKa-values 5.1 and 10.5, respectively.Exchanges of water molecules bound to the halogen atoms are fast processes. - Keywords: Chemical Kinetics / Laser Flash Photolysis / Photochemistry / Radicals / Solutions
