14483-19-3 Usage

Description

Diopside is a monoclinic pyroxene mineral with the chemical composition MgCaSi2O6. It is a significant rock-forming mineral found in various metamorphic and basic to ultrabasic igneous rocks, as well as in meteorites. Diopside forms complete solid-solution series with hedenbergite (FeCaSi2O6) and augite [(Ca,Na)(Mg,Fe,Al)(Si,Al)2O6], and partial solid solutions with orthopyroxene [(Mg,Ca)(Si,Al)2O6] and pigeonite [(Ca,Mg,Fe)(Mg,Fe)Si2O6]. It is available in several varieties, including a chromium-rich gem variety known as chrome diopside. Diopside crystals are typically dull green, transparent to translucent, and belong to the monoclinic prismatic class. They exhibit two distinct prismatic cleavages at 87 and 93, characteristic of the pyroxene series. The mineral has a Mohs hardness of six, a Vickers hardness of 7.7 GPa at a load of 0.98 N, and a density ranging from 3.25 to 3.55 g/cc. Its indices of refraction are η1 = 1.663–1.699, η2 = 1.671–1.705, and η3 = 1.693–1.728.

Uses

1. Used in Gemstone Industry:
Diopside is used as a gemstone for its vibrant colors and unique physical properties. The chromium-rich variety, chrome diopside, is particularly valued for its deep green color and is often used in jewelry.
2. Used in Mineralogy and Petrology:
Diopside is used as a key mineral in the study of metamorphic and igneous rocks, as well as in understanding the processes that form these rocks. Its presence and composition can provide valuable information about the geological history and conditions of the rock formations.
3. Used in Research and Education:
Diopside's unique properties, such as its solid-solution series with other minerals and its distinct cleavages, make it an important specimen for research and educational purposes in the fields of mineralogy, geology, and material science.
4. Used in Industrial Applications:
Due to its hardness and durability, Diopside can be used in various industrial applications where a hard, wear-resistant material is required, such as in the manufacturing of cutting tools or abrasive materials.
5. Used in Meteorite Studies:
Diopside's presence in meteorites makes it an important mineral for studying extraterrestrial materials and understanding the composition and formation of celestial bodies.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 14483-19-3 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 1,4,4,8 and 3 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 1 and 9 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 14483-19:
(7*1)+(6*4)+(5*4)+(4*8)+(3*3)+(2*1)+(1*9)=103
103 % 10 = 3
So 14483-19-3 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
