2-Chloro-3-(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)pyridine was prepared from 3-amino-2-chloropyridine with n-butyl nitrite in presence of the organic acid and 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol. 3-(2,2,2-Trifluoroethoxy)-2-mercaptopyridine was synthesized by mercaptylation with thiourea. The chlorination with chlorine and the amination with NH 3 afforded 3-(2,2,2-trifIuoroethoxy)-2- pyridinesulfonamide. The route had several advantages in comparison with the reported synthesis, including less steps, mild condition and higher yields.
