Description

HUMAN IL-13, also known as Interleukin-13, is an immunoregulatory cytokine that plays a crucial role in the immune system. It is primarily produced by activated T-helper 2 (Th2) cells, as well as by mast cells and natural killer (NK) cells. The gene encoding HUMAN IL-13 is located on human chromosome 5q31, and it exhibits cross-species reactivity with murine IL-13. Recombinant human IL-13 is a 12.6kDa protein composed of 115 amino acid residues.

Uses

1. Used in Immunological Research:
HUMAN IL-13 is used as a research tool for studying the immune system, particularly the role of Th2 cells, mast cells, and NK cells in immune responses. It helps researchers understand the molecular mechanisms underlying various immune-related diseases and conditions.
2. Used in Drug Development:
HUMAN IL-13 is used as a target for the development of therapeutic drugs aimed at treating immune-related disorders, such as asthma, allergies, and autoimmune diseases. By modulating the activity of IL-13, these drugs can potentially alleviate symptoms and improve the quality of life for patients suffering from these conditions.
3. Used in Diagnostic Applications:
HUMAN IL-13 can be employed as a biomarker for the diagnosis of certain immune-related diseases. Measuring the levels of IL-13 in a patient's blood or tissue samples can provide valuable information about the progression of the disease and help guide treatment decisions.
4. Used in Cell Culture and Assays:
Recombinant human IL-13 is used in cell culture and various assays to study the effects of this cytokine on cell proliferation, differentiation, and function. This helps researchers understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in immune responses and can lead to the development of new therapeutic strategies.
5. Used in Vaccine Development:
HUMAN IL-13 can be utilized in the development of vaccines, particularly those targeting Th2-mediated immune responses. By incorporating IL-13 or its antagonists into vaccine formulations, researchers can potentially enhance the effectiveness of vaccines against certain pathogens.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Interleukin-13 (IL-13) has a role in immune activities against infections and influences the function of various cells taking part in the same. It has been studied to be overexpressed in glioblastoma tumors and cell lines. IL-13 stimulates fibrosis in many infectious diseases. Targeted deletion of IL-13 in mice resulted in impaired T-helper 2 (Th2) cell development and indicated an important role for IL-13 in the expulsion of gastrointestinal parasites. IL-13 exerts anti-inflammatory effects on monocytes and macrophages and it inhibits the expression of inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukins-1β, -6 and -8. IL-13 has also been shown to enhance B cell proliferation and to induce isotype switching resulting in increased production of immunoglobulin E (IgE). Blocking of IL-13 activity inhibits the pathophysiology of asthma.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 148157-34-0 includes 9 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 6 digits, 1,4,8,1,5 and 7 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 3 and 4 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 148157-34:
(8*1)+(7*4)+(6*8)+(5*1)+(4*5)+(3*7)+(2*3)+(1*4)=140
140 % 10 = 0
So 148157-34-0 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
