1-cyano-2,2-diphenyl acrylic acid azide 1 was used to synthesize a number of condensed and noncondensed heterocyclic systems.Through their conversion to the diaryl urea derivative 2 which cyclises to imidazoles 3, or directly by the reaction with thioglycollic acid to thiazole 4, in the presence of anhydrous aluminium chloride to isoquinoline 5, with hydrazine to triazole 6, with anthranilic acid to quinazoline dione 7, with glycine to oxazole 8 and with semicarbazide to pyrazolidinone 9.All these compounds are of expected biological activity either as pharmaceutical or agrochemicals.
