Description
ALPHA-APO-OXYTETRACYCLINE is a degradation product of oxytetracycline formed under acidic conditions. It is generated through an initial dehydration to anhydrooxytetracycline, followed by an internal cyclisation of the C5-OH to the C12 ketone. The resulting cleavage of the C12-C12a bond produces two isomers, αand β-apooxytetracycline. ALPHA-APO-OXYTETRACYCLINE is characterized as a yellow-brown to brown powder and has a relative potency of 0.1 compared to oxytetracycline for inhibiting the growth of aerobic sludge bacteria.
Uses
Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
ALPHA-APO-OXYTETRACYCLINE is used as a potential impurity in commercial preparations of oxytetracycline. It serves as an important standard for monitoring the stability of oxytetracycline, ensuring the quality and efficacy of the antibiotic.
Used in Microbiology Research:
ALPHA-APO-OXYTETRACYCLINE is utilized for studying its inhibitory effects on the growth of various bacterial strains, such as tetracycline-sensitive strains of Pseudomonas, Agrobacterium, Moraxella, and Bacillus, as well as tetracycline-resistant strains of E. coli. This helps in understanding the antibiotic resistance patterns and developing strategies to combat them.
Used in Toxicology Studies:
ALPHA-APO-OXYTETRACYCLINE is employed in toxicological research to evaluate its potential toxic effects on rats, such as decreasing body weight, disrupting blood cell counts, and inducing hepatocyte necrosis. This information is crucial for assessing the safety of oxytetracycline and its degradation products in clinical use.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 18751-99-0 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 1,8,7,5 and 1 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 9 and 9 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 18751-99:
(7*1)+(6*8)+(5*7)+(4*5)+(3*1)+(2*9)+(1*9)=140
140 % 10 = 0
So 18751-99-0 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
