Usage

General Description

3-Methoxypregna-3,5-diene-21,17alpha-carbolactone, also known as Mifepristone, is a synthetic steroid compound, and a progesterone receptor modulator. It is used as a medication for the termination of pregnancy, as well as for the treatment of conditions such as Cushing's syndrome, endometriosis, and some types of cancer. Mifepristone works by blocking the effects of progesterone, which is a hormone essential for maintaining a pregnancy. This ultimately leads to the breakdown of the uterine lining and, when used in combination with another medication, induces abortion. Additionally, it has also been studied for potential use in treating psychiatric disorders, such as depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, due to its effects on the brain's stress response system.
