2411-89-4 Usage
Description
o-Cresolphthalein Complexone is a white powder that serves as an indicator for complexometric titration of various alkaline earth metal ions such as magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), strontium (Sr), and barium (Ba). It is colorless at a pH of 11 but turns pink when it comes into contact with alkaline earth metals, making it a useful tool for detecting the presence of these ions.
Uses
Used in Chemical Analysis:
o-Cresolphthalein Complexone is used as an alkaline earth metal ion indicator for complexometric titration. It helps in the accurate determination of the concentration of these metal ions in various samples.
Used in Medical Diagnostics:
In the medical field, o-Cresolphthalein Complexone is utilized in an auto analyzer to determine serum calcium levels. This application aids in diagnosing and monitoring various health conditions related to calcium metabolism and bone health.
Used in Research and Quality Control:
o-Cresolphthalein Complexone is also employed in research and quality control processes to ensure the presence and accurate measurement of alkaline earth metal ions in different samples, contributing to the development of new materials and the maintenance of product quality in various industries.
Purification Methods
o-Cresolphthalein (a complexon precursor without the two bis-carboxymethylamino groups) is a contaminant and is one of the starting materials. It can be removed by dissolving the reagent in H2O and adding a 3-fold excess of sodium acetate and fractionally precipitating it by dropwise addition of HCl to the clear filtrate. Wash the precipitate with cold H2O and dry the monohydrate at 30o in a vacuum. The pure material gives a single spot on paper chromatography (eluting solvent EtOH/water/phenol, 6:3:1, and developing with NaOH). [Anderegg et al. Helv Chim Acta 37 113 1954.] It complexes with Ba, Ca, Cd, Mg and Sr. [Beilstein 18 III/IV 8141.]
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 2411-89-4 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 2,4,1 and 1 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 8 and 9 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 2411-89:
(6*2)+(5*4)+(4*1)+(3*1)+(2*8)+(1*9)=64
64 % 10 = 4
So 2411-89-4 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
