The invention discloses synthesis for a positive ion clay antiswelling agent dimethyl dodecyl allyl ammonium chloride. The synthesis comprises the following steps: firstly adding dimethylamine and NaOH aqueous solution to a three-necked flask positioned in cold bath, and starting a stirring device; taking chlorododecane, dropwise adding to dimethylamine solution slowly, after dropwise adding the chlorododecane, heating, and dropwise adding chloropropene slowly, and reacting to obtain reaction liquid; finally enabling the reaction liquid to perform recrystallization by using mixed liquor of ethyl acetate and absolute ethyl alcohol, stewing to obtain a sheet-like solid, decompressing and suction-filtering, drying in 45 DEG C, to obtain the pure dimethyl dodecyl allyl ammonium chloride. The dimethyl dodecyl allyl ammonium chloride synthesized in high yield and high purity has a good antiswelling effect, can be used as a clay antiswelling agent, or can be used as a polymeric monomer, so anapplication range of the dimethyl dodecyl allyl ammonium chloride can be widened.
