Trisodium cytidine 5'-diphosphate, also known as CDP, is a diphosphate nucleoside derived from cytidine. It plays a crucial role in the biosynthesis of phospholipids and acts as an inhibitor of glycogenin-catalyzed glucosyl and xylosyl transfer. CDP is a white crystalline powder and is synthesized from cytidine monophosphate (CMP) or uridine monophosphate (UMP) by the transfer of a phosphoryl group, catalyzed by the enzyme uridylate kinase (UMPK). CTP synthetase then catalyzes the conversion of CTP to CDP intermediates like CDP-diacylglycerol, CDP-choline, and CDP-ethanolamine for phospholipid biosynthesis.
