The synthesis and characterisation of a series of phosphoryl donor complexes of B(C6F5)3 were reported and their spectroscopic properties were investigated. The changes in the 31P NMR chemical shifts and the phosphoryl stretching frequencies arising from coordination of the phosphoryl ligand to B(C6F5)3 were described. B(C6F5)3 was further characterised in the solid state by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction study. The X-ray diffraction study displayed weak intramolecular π-stacking interactions between the eclipsed interlocking C6F5 and C6H5 rings.
