Description
Belimumab, also known as LymphoStat-B and Benlysta, is a human sequence monoclonal antibody that was approved by the U.S. FDA in March 2011 for the treatment of patients with active, autoantibody-positive, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). It works by binding to human B lymphocyte stimulator protein (BLys), which is overexpressed in SLE patients, and inhibits its interaction with three receptors, leading to measurable reductions in autoantibodies and specific circulating B cell lineage compartments.
Uses
Used in Autoimmune Disease Treatment:
Belimumab is used as a therapeutic agent for the treatment of autoimmune diseases, specifically systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). It functions by binding to the B lymphocyte stimulator protein (BLys) and inhibiting its interaction with the BLys receptors, resulting in a reduction of autoantibodies and B cell lineage compartments, which helps alleviate the symptoms of SLE.
Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
Belimumab is used as a monoclonal antibody in the pharmaceutical industry for the development of targeted therapies for autoimmune diseases. Its discovery through screening molecules from a phage display library of human single-chain Fv sequences for BLys binding and functional blocking has paved the way for further research and development of similar therapeutic agents.

Clinical Use
Anti-lymphocyte monoclonal antibody:
Treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus
Drug interactions
Potentially hazardous interactions with other drugs
Live vaccines: avoid concomitant use.
Metabolism
Belimumab is a protein for which the expected metabolic
pathway is degradation to small peptides and individual
amino acids by widely distributed proteolytic enzymes.
Classical biotransformation studies have not been
conducted.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 356547-88-1 includes 9 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 6 digits, 3,5,6,5,4 and 7 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 8 and 8 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 356547-88:
(8*3)+(7*5)+(6*6)+(5*5)+(4*4)+(3*7)+(2*8)+(1*8)=181
181 % 10 = 1
So 356547-88-1 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
