General Description
Notexin is a potent neurotoxin isolated from the venom of the Australian tiger snake (Notechis scutatus). It is a presynaptic neurotoxin that primarily targets the nervous system, causing paralysis and potentially leading to respiratory failure. Notexin is composed of multiple subunits, including a phospholipase A2 (PLA2) enzyme that disrupts cell membranes and interferes with synaptic transmission. This results in the release of neurotransmitters and disruption of neuromuscular function, leading to muscle weakness and paralysis.
