General Description
2,2',4,5,5'-Pentachlorobiphenyl (PCB 101) is a derivative of Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) which are a group of man-made chemicals. PCBs were produced in large amounts commercially due to their electrical insulating properties, wide range of temperature stability, and their non-flammability. Due to their potential harmful effects, however, production was halted in the 1970s. PCB 101 is categorized as a dioxin-like compound and is known for its stability and resistance to acids and bases. It is hydrophobic and insoluble in water, but soluble in fat, oils, or organic solvents. Bioaccumulation of PCB 101 in fatty tissues of animals and humans raises significant health concerns, which include neurological damage, reproductive and endocrine disruption, and cancer. It can also lead to damaging ecological effects in the environment.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 37680-73-2 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 3,7,6,8 and 0 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 7 and 3 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 37680-73:
(7*3)+(6*7)+(5*6)+(4*8)+(3*0)+(2*7)+(1*3)=142
142 % 10 = 2
So 37680-73-2 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

METHOD FOR SEPARATING AND CLEANING UP POLYHALOGENATED BIPHENYLS
-
Page/Page column 20-26, (2008/06/13)
The method for separating and cleaning up polyhalogenated biphenyls (PHBs) is characterized by comprising the following three steps: (1) the step of bringing a sample containing PHBs into contact with a fibrous activated carbon; (2) the step of washing the fibrous activated carbon with hexanes; and (3) the step of eluting PHBs from the fibrous activated carbon.
