The bifunctional phosphidomanganate 2- (2) is obtained by a two step reduction of (OC)4BrMnPPh2H (1) with sodium in THF.The presence of two adjacent nucleophilic centres in 2 is proved by the reaction with (CH3O)2SO2 and Br3Br, which results in the formation of (OC)4CH3MnPPh2CH3 (3) and (4), respectively. From 2 and Cl2CHR the manganacyclopropane derivatives (5a,b) with unusual bonding properties are obtained.According to an X-ray structural analysis, crystals of 5a are monoclinic, space groupP21/c with Z = 4.
