Direct Black 38, also known as C.I. Direct Black 38 or Benzo[b]naphtho[1,2-d]thiazol-6-amine, is a synthetic, soluble azo dye derived from benzidine which is typically used to dye textiles, paper, and leather. It has a dark bluish-black appearance. However, it is known for being carcinogenic and has been associated with bladder cancer, causing its use to be widely banned or restricted. It is hazardous and can cause harm to both the environment and human health, primarily through skin contact or inhalation.
