39863-30-4 Usage

Description

Hexamethylolmelamine is a compound that can undergo further condensation in the presence of an acid catalyst, leading to the formation of various resins. It is characterized by its ability to form ether linkages and can be used in the production of a wide range of resins by carefully selecting factors such as pH, reaction temperature, reactant ratio, amino monomer, and the extent of condensation.

Uses

Used in Coatings Industry:
Hexamethylolmelamine is used as a component in liquid coating resins for producing hard, solvent-resistant coatings. It is mixed with methanol or butanol to create these resins, which can then be heated with various hydroxy, carboxyl, and amide functional polymers to form a cross-linked film. This application takes advantage of the compound's ability to condense and form ether linkages, resulting in a durable and resistant coating material.
Used in Polymer Industry:
In the polymer industry, Hexamethylolmelamine is utilized as a versatile building block for creating a variety of resins. By adjusting the reaction conditions and reactant ratios, it is possible to produce resins with specific properties tailored to different applications, such as adhesives, laminates, and molded products. Hexamethylolmelamine's ability to form cross-linked films makes it a valuable asset in the development of high-performance polymers.

Preparation

To a resin flask equipped with a mechanical stirrer and condenser are added 37.8 gm (0.3 mole) of melamine and 195 gm of 37% (2.4 moles) formaldehyde solution. The pH of the mixture is adjusted with caustic to pH 8.3. The reaction mixture is heated on a water bath with stirring at 50°C for about 70-80 min, at which time all the melamine has gone into solution. On cooling the product separates as a thick white precipitate and is filtered to afford the monohydrate (after drying at 50°C). Yield: 62.5-69.0 gm (68-75%), m.p. 147°-153°C. Preparation of Hexamethylolmelamine NOTE: Approximately one-third of the product melts at 120°-140°C. This reaction can also be carried out at room temperature over a two week period to give a quantitative yield, m.p. 150°-154°C. Infrared absorption data (KBr) are (microns): 2.93 (s), 3.37 (w), 6.40 (s), 6.65 (m), 6.90 (w), 7.20 (m), 7.50 (w), 7.82 (s), 8.35 (w), 10.10 (s), 10.90 (w), 11.45 (w), 12.30 (w) (where s = strong, m = medium and w = weak).

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 39863-30-4 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 3,9,8,6 and 3 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 3 and 0 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 39863-30:
(7*3)+(6*9)+(5*8)+(4*6)+(3*3)+(2*3)+(1*0)=154
154 % 10 = 4
So 39863-30-4 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
