4031-12-3 Usage
Description
Shihunine is a phthalide-pyrrolidine alkaloid that is a constituent of 'Chukanso', a form of the Chinese drug 'Shih-Hu'. It has been isolated by Inubushi and his colleagues and is known to crystallize as needles from Et20-hexane. The picrate of shihunine has a melting point of 163-4°C.
Uses
There is no specific information provided in the materials about the uses of shihunine. However, since it is a constituent of a Chinese drug, it can be inferred that shihunine may have potential applications in traditional Chinese medicine or pharmaceutical research. Further information or research would be needed to determine its specific uses and applications.

Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 4031-12-3 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 4,0,3 and 1 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 1 and 2 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 4031-12:
(6*4)+(5*0)+(4*3)+(3*1)+(2*1)+(1*2)=43
43 % 10 = 3
So 4031-12-3 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Improved syntheses of shihunine, the spiro phthalide pyrrolidine alkaloid
Ore, Vinayak G.,Hordia, Mahendra D.,Arasimhan, Nurani S.
, p. 2483 - 2494 (2007/10/02)
This paper describes the syntheses of the spire-alkaloid shihunine (0) by three different approaches. In the first, phthalic anhydride was condensed with N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone and the resulting phthalide 6 was hydrolysed to shihunine. In the second, phthalic anhydride was converted to the alkylidine phthalide 0 using Wittig reaction and then to 1 and finally to shihunine. In the third, methyl-2-formylbenzoate ( 6) was condensed with a zinc homoenolate to get the phthalide 0, which was then oxidised to 1,followed by cyclisation to the dilactone 4. 4 was converted to 1 through 5 and finally to shihunine.
