431-78-7 Usage
General Description
2,3-DIBROMO-1,1,1,3,3-PENTAFLUOROPROPANE, also known as halon 2402, is a chemical compound used as a fire extinguishing agent and in the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals and organic chemicals. It is highly reactive and flammable, and in its liquid form, it can cause cold burns and frostbite upon contact with skin. It is also known to have ozone-depleting properties and poses a risk to the environment. Due to its harmful effects on the ozone layer and the environment, its production and use have been restricted under the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. Despite its effectiveness as a fire extinguishing agent, its use is being phased out in favor of more environmentally friendly alternatives.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 431-78-7 includes 6 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 3 digits, 4,3 and 1 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 7 and 8 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 431-78:
(5*4)+(4*3)+(3*1)+(2*7)+(1*8)=57
57 % 10 = 7
So 431-78-7 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

A facile route to tetrafluoroallene
Lu, Hengyao,Friedrich, H. Bruce,Burton, Donald J.
, p. 83 - 86 (2007/10/03)
Tetrafluoroallene has been prepared in 72percent-75percent yield by metallation of either 2-hydropentafluoropropene or 2-bromopentafluoropropene with t-butyllithium followed by thermal elimination of lithium fluoride from the 2-lithiopentafluoropropene.The 2-bromopentafluoropropene route gives the allene free of isobutane. - Keywords: Allenes; Lithium reagents; Metallation reactions; Elimination reactions; IR spectroscopy
