The invention relates to a method for synthesizing a taurine precursor-ammonium taurate by directly using ethylene and sulfur trioxide as initial raw materials. In the method, ethylene and sulfur trioxide are reacted in a solvent to prepare a cyclic intermediate, and under the action of a catalyst and a ligand, the cyclic intermediate is subjected to a reaction with ammonia to form ammonium taurate. Compared with the preparation method of the taurine precursor in the existing ethylene oxide methods, the method has the advantages of low raw material cost, high product selectivity, and mild reaction conditions.
