Usage

General Description

2-Methoxyethane-1-sulfonaMide, also known as MESNA, is a synthetic organic compound with the chemical formula C6H13NO3S. It is used primarily as a detoxifying agent in the treatment of certain types of chemotherapy-induced hemorrhagic cystitis and in the management of overdoses of the drug paracetamol. MESNA works by binding to and inactivating toxic metabolites of the chemotherapy drug ifosfamide and preventing damage to the bladder wall. It is administered intravenously or orally and is generally well tolerated with minimal side effects. MESNA is classified as a mucolytic agent and is sometimes used in the pharmaceutical and medical industries as a stabilizer for certain medications.
