Mono- and di-potassium salts and methoxy adducts of sulfur-bridged biphenols by selective deprotonation were synthesized. Flame photometry analysis and a crystal x-ray structural determination were carried out to confirm the composition. Addition of an ethereal solution to a stirred suspension of stoichiometric KH in diethyl ether afforded an analytically pure pale yellow precipitate characterized as the mono-potassium salt. The non-macrocyclic ligands described show selective deprotonation chemistry, creating simple routes to tuneable, mono- or di-anionic acryloxide-based ligands.
