62379-61-7 Usage
Description
Misch Metal is a pyrophoric alloy primarily composed of mixed rare-earth metals, including cerium (50%), lanthanum (25%), neodymium (18%), praseodymium (5%), and other rare earths. It is prepared through the electrolysis of fused rare earth chloride mixture and has a density of approximately 6.67 and a melting point of approximately 648°C. The alloy is available in the form of waffle-like plates weighing 40-60 lb, which are packed in oiled paper, immersed in oil, or coated with vinyl paint. It is characterized by its grey trapezoid pieces.
Uses
Used in Lighter Flints:
Misch Metal is used as a key component in the manufacturing of flints for cigarette lighters. Its pyrophoric properties make it an ideal material for producing sparks when needed.
Used in Ferrous and Nonferrous Alloys:
Misch Metal is used as an alloying agent in various ferrous and nonferrous alloys, such as cast iron, aluminum, nickel, magnesium, and copper alloys. It helps improve the properties of these alloys, making them more suitable for specific applications.
Used in Iron (Fe-Cr-Al) Alloys:
Misch Metal is used as a dopant in non-ferrous metal alloys, such as iron-chrome-aluminum (Fe-Cr-Al), to increase the operating life of Fe-Cr-Al heating devices.
Used in Iron Alloys:
Misch Metal is alloyed with iron (up to 30%) to improve the malleability of iron, making it more workable and easier to process.
Used in Copper Alloys:
Misch Metal is added to copper alloys to make them harder, enhancing their durability and resistance to wear.
Used in Aluminum Alloys:
Misch Metal is used in aluminum alloys to make them stronger, improving their structural integrity and load-bearing capacity.
Used in Magnesium Alloys:
Misch Metal is added to magnesium alloys to reduce creep, which is the tendency of materials to deform permanently under stress over time.
Used in Nickel Alloys:
Misch Metal is used in nickel alloys to reduce oxidation, which helps protect the alloys from corrosion and extends their service life.
Used as a Getter in Vacuum Tubes:
Misch Metal serves as a getter, a material that reacts with and removes small amounts of gaseous impurities from vacuum tubes, ensuring a high vacuum level and improving the performance of the tubes.
Hazard
Flammable, dangerous fire risk.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 62379-61-7 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 6,2,3,7 and 9 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 6 and 1 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 62379-61:
(7*6)+(6*2)+(5*3)+(4*7)+(3*9)+(2*6)+(1*1)=137
137 % 10 = 7
So 62379-61-7 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
