64712-27-2 Usage

General Description

1,1-Dichloro-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropane, also known as HCFC-123, is a chemical compound used as a refrigerant and a blowing agent in the production of foam plastics. It has a molecular formula of C3H2Cl2F4 and is a colorless, nonflammable gas at room temperature. HCFC-123 has ozone-depleting potential and is being phased out as part of the Montreal Protocol’s efforts to protect the ozone layer. It is also considered a greenhouse gas with a high global warming potential, so its usage is being gradually replaced by more environmentally friendly alternatives. Although HCFC-123 has been used in various industrial applications, its environmental and health hazards have led to restrictions on its production and use in many countries.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 64712-27-2 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 6,4,7,1 and 2 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 2 and 7 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 64712-27:
(7*6)+(6*4)+(5*7)+(4*1)+(3*2)+(2*2)+(1*7)=122
122 % 10 = 2
So 64712-27-2 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Preparation of carboxylic acids

-

Page/Page column 3-4, (2008/06/13)

Carboxylic acids can be prepared by reacting compounds comprising a -CCl 2 F group, a CCIF 2 group or a CCl 3 group with sulfur trioxide and sulfuric acid. The reaction is especially suitable for the preparation of 3,3,3-trifluoropropionic acid from CF 3 -CH 2 -CCl 2 F, CF 3 -CH 2 -CCIF 2 , CF 3 -CH 2 -CCl 3 or a mixture of one or two thereof as starting material. Usually, oleum is used as the source for sulfur trioxide. In a preferred embodiment, the starting material comprises CF 3 -CH 2 -CCl 2 F and/or CF 3 -CH 2 -CCIF 2 which is or are prepared in a fluorination reaction between CCl 3 -CH 2 -CCl 3 and HF. As a source for CCl 3 -CH 2 -CCl 2 , the product of the reaction between CH 2 =CCl 2 and CCl 4 is advantageously used.
