757-58-4 Usage

Description

Hexaethyl tetraphosphate is a chemical compound with the formula (C2H5O)2P(O)OP(O)(C2H5O)2. It is a colorless, oily liquid with a strong, irritating odor. It is soluble in water and has a high reactivity with various organic and inorganic compounds.

Uses

Used in Pesticide Industry:
Hexaethyl tetraphosphate is used as an insecticide for controlling various types of insects. It is particularly used in the insecticide Bladan, which was commonly used by the Germans during World War II when nicotine-based insecticides were not available. Hexaethyl tetraphosphate's high reactivity and ability to penetrate insect exoskeletons make it an effective insecticide.
Hexaethyl tetraphosphate is used as a pesticide for [application reason] in the Pesticide Industry.

Preparation

Hexaethyl tetraphosphate was first synthesised by the German chemist Gerhard Schrader, who reacted phosphorus oxychloride and triethyl orthophosphate at approximately 150 °C. This reaction is known as the Schrader process. The Germans also made hexaethyl tetraphosphate by phosphorus oxychloride and ethyl alcohol. This reaction requires slightly lower pressure than the Schrader process. The reaction has a chemical equation of POCl3 + 3(C2H5)3PO4 → (C2H5)6P4O13 + 3C2H5Cl.

Air & Water Reactions

Hexaethyl tetraphosphate is soluble in water and gradually decomposed by it.

Health Hazard

Highly toxic, may be fatal if inhaled, swallowed or absorbed through skin. Contact with molten substance may cause severe burns to skin and eyes. Avoid any skin contact. Effects of contact or inhalation may be delayed. Fire may produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases. Runoff from fire control or dilution water may be corrosive and/or toxic and cause pollution.

Fire Hazard

Combustible material: may burn but does not ignite readily. Containers may explode when heated. Runoff may pollute waterways. Substance may be transported in a molten form.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 757-58-4 includes 6 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 3 digits, 7,5 and 7 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 5 and 8 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 757-58:
(5*7)+(4*5)+(3*7)+(2*5)+(1*8)=94
94 % 10 = 4
So 757-58-4 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
