Description
SILVER CHROMATE is a chemical compound with the formula Ag2CrO4. It is a red monoclinic crystal or brownish-red powder, characterized by a density of 5.625 g/cm3. SILVER CHROMATE is insoluble in water but soluble in nitric acid, ammonia, and solutions of alkali cyanides and chromates. SILVER CHROMATE is known for its crystalline powder structure.
Uses
Used in Chemical Industry:
SILVER CHROMATE is used as a catalyst for the formation of aldol from alcohol. This application is significant in the synthesis of various organic compounds and plays a crucial role in the chemical reactions involved in this process.
Used in Analytical Chemistry:
In the field of analytical chemistry, SILVER CHROMATE is utilized in the determination of halides through the Mohr titration method. The formation of SILVER CHROMATE at the endpoint of this titration serves as an indicator to signify the completion of the reaction, thus aiding in accurate measurements and analysis.
Preparation
Silver chromate is prepared by slowly adding a solution of potassium chromate to a solution of silver nitrate:2Ag+ (aq) + Cr4O2- (aq) → Ag2CrO4 (s)The precipitate is washed with hot water.
Purification Methods
Wash the red-brown powder with H2O, dry it in a vacuum, then powder well and dry again in a vacuum at 90o/5hours. Its solubility in H2O is 0.0014% at 10o. Store it in the dark. [Cardillo & Shimizu J Org Chem 42 4268 1977.]
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 7784-01-2 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 7,7,8 and 4 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 0 and 1 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 7784-01:
(6*7)+(5*7)+(4*8)+(3*4)+(2*0)+(1*1)=122
122 % 10 = 2
So 7784-01-2 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
