Description
CADE OIL, also known as Juniper tar, is a yellow oil derived from the wood of Juniperus oxycedrus through destructive distillation. It is a clear orange-brown to dark-brown oily liquid with an intense, tar-like, smoky, phenolic odor. Its chief constituent is cadinene, a sesquiterpene. The oil is soluble in alcohol and is usually rectified under vacuum to improve color and solubility.
Uses
Used in Perfumery:
CADE OIL is used as a fragrance ingredient for its smoky leathery, woody phenolic, dry, and warm note in forest notes, leather bases, fougeres, and pine for men's fragrances. It is also used in the imitation of certain essential oils and oakmoss.
Used in Soap Perfumes:
CADE OIL is used as a disinfectant and deodorizing agent in soap perfumes, often combined with thyme, origanum, elove, and similar phenolic oils, as well as with cassia oil, Melaleuca alternifolia, and Ocotea pretiosa.
Used in Flavoring:
CADE OIL is used as a flavoring agent in the meat and seafood industry, imparting a smoke note similar to that obtained in a regular smokehouse.
Used in Medications:
CADE OIL is used in eczema and psoriasis medications due to its potential therapeutic properties.
