8013-75-0 Usage

Description

Fusel oil is a volatile, oily mixture consisting largely of amyl alcohols, including isoamyl alcohol (isobutyl carbinol) and active amyl alcohol (2-methyl-1-butanol), along with other alcohols, esters, and fatty acids. It is produced as a by-product in the fermentation of starchor sugar-containing materials such as potatoes, grapes, beetroots, and grain, and is purified by rectification. Fusel oil has a mild odor and a disagreeable odor when refined, and its presence in a liquor can have an adverse effect if present in appreciable percentages, while trace amounts are necessary for the characteristic flavor.

Uses

Used as a Flavoring Agent:
Fusel oil is used as a flavoring agent in the production of alcoholic beverages, where trace amounts contribute to the characteristic flavor.
Used as a Solvent:
Due to its properties as a clear, colorless liquid with a mild odor, fusel oil is used as a solvent in various applications.
Used as a Source of Amyl Alcohols:
Fusel oil serves as a source of higher amyl alcohols, which can be used in the production of various chemicals and compounds.
Used in the Paint Industry:
Fusel oil is used in the paint industry for the production of paints and coatings, thanks to its properties as a mixture of high molecular weight alcohols, esters, and fatty acids.
Used in the Plastics Industry:
Fusel oil is also utilized in the plastics industry for the manufacturing of certain types of plastics, given its composition and characteristics.

Preparation

As a by-product in the fermentation of starch- or sugar-containing materials (potatoes, grapes, beetroots, grain); purifed by rectifcation.

Air & Water Reactions

Flammable. Less dense than water and soluble in water.

Reactivity Profile

FUSEL OIL has a high degree of FUSEL OIL composition containing various alcohols. Flammable and/or toxic gases are generated by the combination of alcohols with alkali metals, nitrides, and strong reducing agents. They react with oxoacids and carboxylic acids to form esters plus water. Oxidizing agents convert them to aldehydes or ketones. Alcohols exhibit both weak acid and weak base behavior. They may initiate the polymerization of isocyanates and epoxides.

Hazard

Moderate fire risk. Toxic by ingestion and inhalation.

Fire Hazard

HIGHLY FLAMMABLE: Will be easily ignited by heat, sparks or flames. Vapors may form explosive mixtures with air. Vapors may travel to source of ignition and flash back. Most vapors are heavier than air. They will spread along ground and collect in low or confined areas (sewers, basements, tanks). Vapor explosion hazard indoors, outdoors or in sewers. Runoff to sewer may create fire or explosion hazard. Containers may explode when heated. Many liquids are lighter than water.

Safety Profile

May contain carcinogens. Experimental reproductive effects. Mutation data reported. Flammable liquid when exposed to heat or flame; can react vigorously with oxidizing materials. When heated to decomposition it emits acrid smoke and fumes. See also indvidual components.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 8013-75-0 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 8,0,1 and 3 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 7 and 5 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 8013-75:
(6*8)+(5*0)+(4*1)+(3*3)+(2*7)+(1*5)=80
80 % 10 = 0
So 8013-75-0 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
