Description
Paraffin, also known as alkane, is a colorless liquid that belongs to a class of saturated aliphatic hydrocarbons with a straight or branched carbon chain and the general formula CnH2n+2. It is found mainly in Pennsylvania and midcontinent petroleum and can range in physical form from methane gases to waxy solids.
Uses
Used in Pharmaceutical Aid:
Paraffin is used as a stiffening agent in the pharmaceutical industry.
Used in Cosmetics:
Paraffin is used as a beeswax substitute in cosmetics. It is a solid mixture of hydrocarbons obtained from petroleum, although it can also be obtained from wood or coal. Pure paraffin is harmless to the skin, but the presence of impurities may result in irritation, eczemas, and other skin problems.
Used in Gas Calibration:
C1-C6 n-Paraffin is used in gas calibration, testing of fixed and personal gas monitors, and in situ industrial stack analyzers. It consists of a cylinder of 14 L containing 100 ppm of each component in nitrogen. The multi-component gas mixture is suitable for GC calibration and is manufactured gravimetrically for maximum accuracy. A certificate of analysis is provided, and the product is packaged in lightweight, non-refillable, recyclable containers, making it portable, convenient, and easy to use. It is also NIST traceable.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 8020-83-5 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 8,0,2 and 0 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 8 and 3 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 8020-83:
(6*8)+(5*0)+(4*2)+(3*0)+(2*8)+(1*3)=75
75 % 10 = 5
So 8020-83-5 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
