Usage

Description

Pineneedle Oil, also known as Siberian fir needle oil, is an essential oil obtained by the steam distillation of needles and twigs of several varieties of coniferous trees (Abies) native to both Canada and Siberia. It is an almost colorless or pale yellow liquid with a characteristic fir odor and a pungent taste. The oil is composed mainly of bornyl acetate (20–35%), α-pinene (10–22%), and camphene (15–26%). Russia is the main producer of Siberian fir needle oil, with an annual production of approximately 50 tons.

Essential oil composition

Main constituents of silver fur needles and twig oil include l-α-pinene, l-limonene, l-bornyl acetate, lauric and decyclic aldehydes, and probably a sesquiterpene.

Safety Profile

Mildly toxic by ingestion. A human and experimental skin irritant. When heated to decomposition it emits acrid smoke and irritating fumes.
