8022-91-1 Usage

Description

Ho oil, also known as wood oil or Ho leaf oil, is a colorless to yellow liquid derived from the leaves and wood of the Cinnamomum camphora L. Nees & Ebermeier tree. It is soluble in propylene glycol and most fixed oils, but becomes turbid on dilution and is insoluble in glycerin. The oil has a sweet, floral, delicate odor reminiscent of linalool and a pleasant, rose-like slightly camphorous odor.
Source:
Ho oil is found in the leaves and wood of the Cinnamomum camphora L. Nees & Ebermeier tree.
Production Methods:
Ho oil is obtained by steam distillation of chipped wood using rudimentary stills with a perforated bottom to avoid prolonged contact of the material with the boiling water. This results in extensive hydrolysis of the ester content (linalyl acetate). The essential oil is obtained in high yields (8% or more). An essential oil is also steam-distilled from the fruits in approximately 3% yields.

Uses

Used in Flavor and Fragrance Industry:
Ho oil is used as a flavoring agent and fragrance ingredient due to its sweet, floral, and slightly camphorous odor. It is commonly used in the production of perfumes, soaps, and other personal care products.
Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
Ho oil is used as a pharmaceutical ingredient due to its potential medicinal properties. The oil contains up to 80% linalool, which has been shown to have anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and antimicrobial properties. It can be used in the development of drugs and treatments for various health conditions.
Used in Aromatherapy:
Ho oil is used in aromatherapy for its calming and soothing properties. The oil can be used in massage oils, diffusers, and other aromatherapy products to promote relaxation and stress relief.
Used in Cosmetics Industry:
Ho oil is used as a cosmetic ingredient due to its pleasant odor and potential skin benefits. The oil can be used in the formulation of creams, lotions, and other skincare products to provide a pleasant scent and potential skin conditioning properties.

Preparation

By steam distillation of the leaves of Cinnamomum camphora Sieb. (Fenarolis Handbook of Flavor Ingredients, 1971).
