Compound 3-hydroxymethyl N-methyl piperidine (4-chlorophenoxy) acetate, hydrochloride, (PM 170), reduced weight or decreased weight gain of genetically obese rats and mice, and gold thioglucose obese mice, through a selective reduction in food intake. The compound had no effect on body weight of lean mice. The change in body weight of gold thioglucose obese mice was due mainly to a decrease in body fat mass. PM 170 may be a hypolipidemic agent since it leads to a decrease in the cholesterol and triglyceride blood levels.
