Usage

General Description

Tagetitoxin is a toxic cyclotetrapeptide produced by the fungus Pseudomonas syringae pv. tagetis that inhibits photosystem II, an essential component of the photosynthetic electron transport chain in plants. It is a known virulence factor of the bacterium and is responsible for the yellowing and wilting of infected plants. Tagetitoxin is a competitive inhibitor of the water-splitting complex of photosystem II, blocking the flow of electrons and halting the production of energy-rich molecules. This disruption leads to the death of plant cells and ultimately the decline of the plant. Research into the biological activity of tagetitoxin has led to a better understanding of the mechanisms of photosynthesis and has potential applications in agriculture and crop protection.
