9001-26-7 Usage

Description

Prothrombin, also known as factor II or autithrombin III, is a precursor of the enzyme thrombin, a proteinaceous component of blood plasma. It plays a crucial role in the blood-clotting mechanism and is converted into thrombin when activated at the site of an open wound.

Uses

Used in Medical Industry:
Prothrombin is used as a therapeutic agent for treating patients with bleeding disorders, such as hemophilia and von Willebrand disease. It helps in the formation of blood clots, preventing excessive bleeding and promoting wound healing.
Used in Research and Diagnostics:
Prothrombin is used as a research tool for studying the blood-clotting mechanism and the role of various clotting factors in the coagulation cascade. It is also used in diagnostic tests to assess the clotting ability of a patient's blood and to monitor the effectiveness of anticoagulant therapy.
Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
Prothrombin is used in the development of pharmaceutical products, such as prothrombin complex concentrates (PCCs) and recombinant factor VIIa, which are used to treat bleeding episodes in patients with clotting factor deficiencies or those who are unresponsive to standard treatments.
Used in Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine:
Prothrombin is used in blood banking and transfusion medicine to screen blood donors for clotting factor deficiencies and to ensure the safety and efficacy of blood products used for transfusions. It helps in the proper management of blood supplies and the prevention of transfusion-related complications.

Purification Methods

Prothrombin is purified by two absorptions on a barium citrate adsorbent, followed by decomposition of the adsorbents with a weak carboxylic cation-exchanger (Amberlite IRF-97), isoelectric precipitation (pH 4.7-4.9) and further purification by chromatography on Sephadex G-200 or IRC-50. Finally it is recrystallised from a 1% solution adjusted to pH 6.0-7.0 and partial lyophilisation to ca 1/5 to 1/10th volume and set aside at 2-5o to crystallise. Occasionally seeding is required. Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 9001-26-7 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 9,0,0 and 1 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 2 and 6 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 9001-26:
(6*9)+(5*0)+(4*0)+(3*1)+(2*2)+(1*6)=67
67 % 10 = 7
So 9001-26-7 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
