9013-31-4 Usage

Description

APOFERRITIN, also known as apoferritin, is an iron-binding protein that plays a crucial role in iron storage and metabolism. It is composed of 24 subunits and has the ability to bind and release iron ions, making it an essential component in various biological processes. APOFERRITIN possesses unique properties, such as its ability to demetallate hemin and metallate protoporphyrin IX, which contribute to its diverse applications in different fields.

Uses

Used in Gel Filtration Chromatography:
APOFERRITIN is used as a gel filtration molecular weight marker for determining the molecular weight of proteins and other biomolecules in gel filtration chromatography and protein chromatography. Its well-defined molecular weight and stability make it an ideal standard for accurate measurements and analysis.
Used in Iron Loading of Cultured Cells:
APOFERRITIN from equine spleen is used to determine its partition coefficients in phase systems and for iron loading of cultured cells. This application aids in studying the mechanisms of iron uptake, transport, and storage in cells, which is crucial for understanding various cellular processes and potential therapeutic interventions.
Used in Imaging the Interface of Biology and Nanotechnology:
APOFERRITIN has been utilized in in situ liquid scanning transmission electron microscopy for imaging the interface of biology and nanotechnology. This application allows researchers to visualize the interactions between biological molecules and nanostructures, providing valuable insights into the development of novel nanomaterials for various applications.
Used in Photodynamic Therapy of Cancer:
APOFERRITIN is used as a novel nanocarrier to load methylene blue (MB) and demonstrate its potential applications for photodynamic therapy of cancer. The unique properties of APOFERRITIN, such as its ability to bind and release iron ions, make it an effective carrier for delivering photosensitizers like MB, which can generate reactive oxygen species upon light activation, leading to the destruction of cancer cells.

Biochem/physiol Actions

This protein shell of ferritin lacking iron is widely used for the calibration of gel filtration columns and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. It is very abundant in beta-cells of the pancreas where it acts as an anti-oxidant. When added to cultured endothelial cells apoferritin is taken up in a dose-responsive manner and appears to protect the cells from oxidant-mediated cytolysis.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 9013-31-4 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 9,0,1 and 3 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 3 and 1 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 9013-31:
(6*9)+(5*0)+(4*1)+(3*3)+(2*3)+(1*1)=74
74 % 10 = 4
So 9013-31-4 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
