The invention discloses a hydroxypropyl alkyl containing quaternary ammonium salt and a synthesis method thereof, and belongs to the technical field of organic synthesis. The method comprises the following steps: taking epoxy propane, hydrochloric acid and alkyl tertiary amine as raw materials, preparing tertiary amine hydrochloride from alkyl tertiary amine and hydrochloric acid; and reacting tertiary amine hydrochloride with epoxy propane to obtain different types of hydroxypropyl alkyl containing quaternary ammonium salt. Compared with the reaction between ethylene oxide and alkyl tertiaryamine, epoxy propane can react with alkyl tertiary amine in a normal pressure reaction kettle, so that the requirement on equipment is low, special equipment is not needed, and the equipment cost is reduced. All used raw materials are easily available common industrial products, the conversion rate is high (more than or equal to 95%), and the raw materials are fully utilized.
