It is designed to produce better efficiencies and lifetimes compared to standard organic photovoltaic materials. The key properties of PCDTBT result from its lower HOMO/LUMO levels, which lead to increased open circuit voltage, longer wavelength absorption, and improved stability under ambient conditions.

Uses

Used in Photovoltaic Solar Cells:
PCDTBT is used as a donor material in combination with PCBM as an acceptor material to form a nanocomposite for the fabrication of photovoltaic solar cells. This combination enhances the efficiency and performance of the solar cells.
Used in Photovoltaic Inks:
PCDTBT blend with PCBM can also be used as a donor/acceptor material for the development of photovoltaic inks, which are essential for the manufacturing of flexible and lightweight solar cells.
Used in Organic Field Effect Transistors (OFETs):
PCDTBT can be used as an active layer in the development of organic field effect transistors (OFETs). OFETs are crucial components in various electronic devices, including sensors and displays. In particular, PCDTBT-based OFETs can be employed for the parts per million (ppm) level detection of NO2 gas, making them useful in environmental monitoring and air quality control applications.
