97-86-9 Usage
Description
Isobutyl methacrylate is a colorless liquid that is moderately flammable, with a flash point of 120°F. It may release acrid smoke and fumes when heated to high temperatures and is subject to polymerization if exposed to heat for prolonged periods or becomes contaminated. The vapors of isobutyl methacrylate are heavier than air, and it may be irritating to skin and eyes, producing a narcotic effect.
Uses
Used in Plastic Industry:
Isobutyl methacrylate is used as a monomer for acrylic resins, which are used in the manufacture of containing active hydroxyl acrylic resin. Coatings with epoxy resin, diisocyanate, and melamine formaldehyde resin configurations are used for preparing two-component coatings.
Used in Oil Industry:
Isobutyl methacrylate is used as additives for lubricating oil washing.
Used in Electronics Industry:
Isobutyl methacrylate is used as an electron microscope to take off the water.
Used in Textile Industry:
Isobutyl methacrylate is used in the manufacture of adhesive fabric.
Used in Chemical Industry:
Isobutyl methacrylate is used as chemical reagents in analytical chemistry.
Used as Water Immiscible Embedding Agent:
Isobutyl methacrylate is used for water-immiscible embedding agents.
Used in Synthesis of Medical Polymer Materials:
Isobutyl methacrylate is used in the synthesis of medical polymer materials.
Used in Thermosetting Coatings and Adhesives:
Isobutyl methacrylate is used in the production of thermosetting coatings and adhesives.
Production Methods
Isobutyl methacrylate is produced by the esterification or
transesterification of isobutyl alcohol with either methacrylic
acid or methyl methacrylate .
Air & Water Reactions
Flammable. Isobutyl methacrylate is sensitive to heat, air and light.
Reactivity Profile
Isobutyl methacrylate is an ester. Esters react with acids to liberate heat along with alcohols and acids. Strong oxidizing acids may cause a vigorous reaction that is sufficiently exothermic to ignite the reaction products. Heat is also generated by the interaction of esters with caustic solutions. Flammable hydrogen is generated by mixing esters with alkali metals and hydrides. Isobutyl methacrylate polymerizes readily.
Hazard
Moderate fire risk.
Health Hazard
May be harmful if inhaled; may cause dizziness or suffocation. Irritating to skin and eyes. Harmful if swallowed.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 97-86-9 includes 5 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 2 digits, 9 and 7 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 8 and 6 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 97-86:
(4*9)+(3*7)+(2*8)+(1*6)=79
79 % 10 = 9
So 97-86-9 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Multi-scale promoting effects of lead for palladium catalyzed aerobic oxidative coupling of methylacrolein with methanol
Han, Junxing,Zhang, Suojiang,Li, Yuchao,Yan, Ruiyi
, p. 2076 - 2080 (2015/04/14)
A highly efficient Pd2Pb8/alumina catalyst was prepared, which provided the highest turnover number (TON) of 302 for aerobic oxidative coupling of methylacrolein with methanol. The enhanced catalytic efficiency could be attributed to the multi-scale (micron, nano and atom scales) promoting effects of the pre-loaded Pb species. This journal is
