Extraction of trace amounts of Sc, Ga, In, Tl, Mo, Zr, Sn, Sb, U, and Th from hydrochloric acid solutions with solutions of N,N-dialkylcarbamoylmethyl(dipnenyl)phosphine oxides in 1,2-dichloroethane was studied with regard to the extradant structure and hydrochloric acid concentration in the aqueous phase. The title compounds are superior to unidentate neutral organophosphorus extradants. The extraction selectivity with respect to uranium increases on replacement of hydrogen in the methylene bridge between the phosphinoyl and carbamoyl groups by an alkyl radical.
