The direct synthesis of lactones is performed by double carbonylation of (2-Bromoethyl)benzene (cas 103-63-9) under carbon monoxide pressure. The reaction is catalyzed by Sn(Co(CO)4))4 in the presence of a base in hydro-alcoholic medium.
