The enthalpy of micellization of potassium decanoate (cas 13040-18-1) in solutions of H2O and D2O determined with microcalorimetry

The microcalorimetrically determined heat of dilution data are used to evaluate the enthalpy of micellization at the CMC (ΔHM) for potassium decanoate (cas 13040-18-1) in H2O and D2O. The values for ΔHM based on a mass-action model are in good agreement with those determined graphically. That ΔHM in D2O is higher by 30% than in H2O at 298.4°K and that diminution in ΔHM at 307.9°K is observed in H2O are both consistent with the hydrogen bonding treatment of hydrophobic association.
