Description
Halazone, also known as p-Dichlorosulfamoylbenzoic acid, is a white, crystalline, photosensitive compound with a faint chlorine odor. It is only slightly soluble in water at pH 7 but becomes very soluble in alkaline solutions. The sodium salt of Halazone is commonly used for disinfecting drinking water.

Manufacturing Process
20 kg p-aminosulfonyl benzoic acid was mixed with 400 L 0.5 N NaOCl. After
an acidification with 100 L 1 N acetic acid, a precipitate dropped out. It was
filtered off, washed and dried. The obtained 4-((dichloroamino)sulfonyl)
benzoic acid had MP: 203°C.
