8002-66-2 Usage

Description

Matricaria oil, also known as German chamomile oil or blue chamomile oil, is a deep-blue or bluish-green liquid derived from the steam distillation of the flowers and stalks of Chamomilla recutita (L.) Rauschert (Matricaria recutita. L., Matricaria chamomilla L., Asteraceae). It is characterized by its strong, aromatic odor and bitter taste, with chamazulene being responsible for its blue color. The oil is soluble in most fixed oils and propylene glycols but insoluble in glycerin and mineral oils.

Uses

Used in Pharmaceutical Preparations:
Matricaria oil is used as an active ingredient in pharmaceutical preparations due to its anti-inflammatory properties. Chamazulene and (?-)-α-bisabolol contribute to these properties, making the oil a valuable component in various medicinal formulations.
Used in Flavoring of Alcoholic Beverages:
Although used in small quantities, Matricaria oil is also employed as a flavoring agent in the production of certain alcoholic beverages, adding a unique and pleasant taste to these products.
Used in Aromatherapy:
The characteristic intensely sweet, herbaceous coumarin-like odor with a fresh undertone of Matricaria oil makes it suitable for use in aromatherapy, where its pleasant scent can provide relaxation and stress relief.
Used in Cosmetics and Skincare Products:
Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, Matricaria oil can be used in cosmetics and skincare products to soothe and calm the skin, making it an ideal ingredient for formulations targeting skin irritation and inflammation.
Used in Agricultural Applications:
The oil's unique properties may also find use in agricultural applications, such as natural pest control or as a component in organic fertilizers, thanks to its potential biological activity against certain pests or its ability to promote plant growth.
