- Green oxidation of olefins and methyl phenyl sulfide with hydrogen peroxide catalyzed by an oxovanadium(IV) Schiff base complex encapsulated in the nanopores of zeolite-Y
-
Oxovanadium(IV) complex of a Schiff base ligand derived from 2,4-dihydroxyacetophenone and 2,2′-dimethylpropanediamine has been encapsulated in the nanopores of zeolite-Y by flexible ligand method and characterized by metal analysis, IR spectroscopic studies and X-ray diffraction patterns. The encapsulated complex [VOL-Y] catalyzes the oxidation of various olefins and methyl phenyl sulfide using hydrogen peroxide as a green oxidant in good yield. Under the optimized reaction conditions, in the presence of VOL-Y, 86 % conversion of cyclooctene with 100 % selectivity for epoxide and 51 % conversion for methyl phenyl sulfide with 92 % selectivity for sulfone were obtained.

- A new clade of styrene monooxygenases for (R)-selective epoxidation
-
Styrene monooxygenases (SMOs) are excellent enzymes for the production of (S)-enantiopure epoxides, but so far, only one (R)-selective SMO has been identified with a narrow substrate spectrum. Mining the NCBI non-redundant protein sequences returned a new distinct clade of (R)-selective SMOs. Among them,SeStyA fromStreptomyces exfoliatus,AaStyA fromAmycolatopsis albispora, andPbStyA fromPseudonocardiaceaewere carefully characterized and found to convert a spectrum of styrene analogues into the corresponding (R)-epoxides with up to >99% ee. Moreover, site 46 (AaStyA numbering) was identified as a critical residue that affects the enantioselectivity of SMOs. Phenylalanine at site 46 was required for the (R)-selective SMO to endow excellent enantioselectivity. The identification of new (R)-selective SMOs would add a valuable green alternative to the synthetic tool box for the synthesis of enantiopure (R)-epoxides.

- Structural and Biochemical Studies Enlighten the Unspecific Peroxygenase from Hypoxylon sp. EC38 as an Efficient Oxidative Biocatalyst
-
Unspecific peroxygenases (UPOs) are glycosylated fungal enzymes that can selectively oxidize C-H bonds. UPOs employ hydrogen peroxide as the oxygen donor and reductant. With such an easy-to-handle cosubstrate and without the need for a reducing agent, UPOs are emerging as convenient oxidative biocatalysts. Here, an unspecific peroxygenase from Hypoxylon sp. EC38 (HspUPO) was identified in an activity-based screen of six putative peroxygenase enzymes that were heterologously expressed in Pichia pastoris. The enzyme was found to tolerate selected organic solvents such as acetonitrile and acetone. HspUPO is a versatile catalyst performing various reactions, such as the oxidation of prim- and sec-alcohols, epoxidations, and hydroxylations. Semipreparative biotransformations were demonstrated for the nonenantioselective oxidation of racemic 1-phenylethanol rac-1b (TON = 13 000), giving the product with 88% isolated yield, and the oxidation of indole 6a to give indigo 6b (TON = 2800) with 98% isolated yield. HspUPO features a compact and rigid three-dimensional conformation that wraps around the heme and defines a funnel-shaped tunnel that leads to the heme iron from the protein surface. The tunnel extends along a distance of about 12 ? with a fairly constant diameter in its innermost segment. Its surface comprises both hydrophobic and hydrophilic groups for dealing with substrates of variable polarities. The structural investigation of several protein-ligand complexes revealed that the active site of HspUPO is accessible to molecules of varying bulkiness with minimal or no conformational changes, explaining the relatively broad substrate scope of the enzyme. With its convenient expression system, robust operational properties, relatively small size, well-defined structural features, and diverse reaction scope, HspUPO is an exploitable candidate for peroxygenase-based biocatalysis.

- Aerobic epoxidation of styrene over Zr-based metal-organic framework encapsulated transition metal substituted phosphomolybdic acid
-
Catalytic epoxidation of styrene with molecular oxygen is regarded as an eco-friendly alternative to producing industrially important chemical of styrene oxide (STO). Recent efforts have been focused on developing highly active and stable heterogeneous catalysts with high STO selectivity for the aerobic epoxidation of styrene. Herein, a series of transition metal monosubstituted heteropolyacid compounds (TM-HPAs), such as Fe, Co, Ni or Cu-monosubstituted HPA, were encapsulated in UiO-66 frameworks (denoted as TM-HPA@UiO-66) by direct solvothermal method, and their catalytic properties were investigated for the aerobic epoxidation of styrene with aldehydes as co-reductants. Among them, Co-HPA@UiO-66 showed relatively high catalytic activity, stability and epoxidation selectivity at very mild conditions (313 K, ambient pressure), that can achieve 82 % selectivity to STO under a styrene conversion of 96 % with air as oxidant and pivalaldehyde (PIA) as co-reductant. In addition, the hybrid composite catalyst can also efficiently catalyze the aerobic epoxidation of a variety of styrene derivatives. The monosubstituted Co atoms in Co-HPA@UiO-66 are the main active sites for the aerobic epoxidation of styrene with O2/PIA, which can efficiently converting styrene to the corresponding epoxide through the activation of the in-situ generated acylperoxy radical intermediate.

- Effect of the Ligand Backbone on the Reactivity and Mechanistic Paradigm of Non-Heme Iron(IV)-Oxo during Olefin Epoxidation
-
The oxygen atom transfer (OAT) reactivity of the non-heme [FeIV(2PyN2Q)(O)]2+ (2) containing the sterically bulky quinoline-pyridine pentadentate ligand (2PyN2Q) has been thoroughly studied with different olefins. The ferryl-oxo complex 2 shows excellent OAT reactivity during epoxidations. The steric encumbrance and electronic effect of the ligand influence the mechanistic shuttle between OAT pathway I and isomerization pathway II (during the reaction stereo pure olefins), resulting in a mixture of cis-trans epoxide products. In contrast, the sterically less hindered and electronically different [FeIV(N4Py)(O)]2+ (1) provides only cis-stilbene epoxide. A Hammett study suggests the role of dominant inductive electronic along with minor resonance effect during electron transfer from olefin to 2 in the rate-limiting step. Additionally, a computational study supports the involvement of stepwise pathways during olefin epoxidation. The ferryl bend due to the bulkier ligand incorporation leads to destabilization of both (Formula presented.) and (Formula presented.) orbitals, leading to a very small quintet–triplet gap and enhanced reactivity for 2 compared to 1. Thus, the present study unveils the role of steric and electronic effects of the ligand towards mechanistic modification during olefin epoxidation.

- Enantiomer Separation of Nitriles and Epoxides by Crystallization with Chiral Organic Salts: Chirality Switching Modulated by Achiral Acids

Enantiomer separation of nitriles and epoxides by inclusion crystal formation with organic-salt type chiral hosts was achieved. The stereochemistry of the preferentially included nitrile could be switched only by changing the achiral carboxylic acid component. Crystallographic analysis of the inclusion crystals reveals that the hydrogen-bonding networks are controlled by the acidity of the phenol group of the acids, which results in chirality switching.

- Production of enantiopure chiral epoxides with e. Coli expressing styrene monooxygenase
-
Styrene monooxygenases are a group of highly selective enzymes able to catalyse the epoxidation of alkenes to corresponding chiral epoxides in excellent enantiopurity. Chiral compounds containing oxirane ring or products of their hydrolysis represent key building blocks and precursors in organic synthesis in the pharmaceutical industry, and many of them are produced on an industrial scale. Two-component recombinant styrene monooxygenase (SMO) from Marinobacterium litorale was expressed as a fused protein (StyAL2StyB) in Escherichia coli BL21(DE3). By high cell density fermentation, 35 gDCW/L of biomass with overexpressed SMO was produced. SMO exhibited excellent stability, broad substrate specificity, and enantioselectivity, as it remained active for months and converted a group of alkenes to corresponding chiral epoxides in high enantiomeric excess (>95–99% ee). Optically pure (S)-4-chlorostyrene oxide, (S)-allylbenzene oxide, (2R,5R)-1,2:5,6-diepoxyhexane, 2-(3-bromopropyl)oxirane, and (S)-4-(oxiran-2-yl)butan-1-ol were prepared by whole-cell SMO.

- Asymmetric azidohydroxylation of styrene derivatives mediated by a biomimetic styrene monooxygenase enzymatic cascade
-
Enantioenriched azido alcohols are precursors for valuable chiral aziridines and 1,2-amino alcohols, however their chiral substituted analogues are difficult to access. We established a cascade for the asymmetric azidohydroxylation of styrene derivatives leading to chiral substituted 1,2-azido alcohols via enzymatic asymmetric epoxidation, followed by regioselective azidolysis, affording the azido alcohols with up to two contiguous stereogenic centers. A newly isolated two-component flavoprotein styrene monooxygenase StyA proved to be highly selective for epoxidation with a nicotinamide coenzyme biomimetic as a practical reductant. Coupled with azide as a nucleophile for regioselective ring opening, this chemo-enzymatic cascade produced highly enantioenriched aromatic α-azido alcohols with up to >99% conversion. A bi-enzymatic counterpart with halohydrin dehalogenase-catalyzed azidolysis afforded the alternative β-azido alcohol isomers with up to 94% diastereomeric excess. We anticipate our biocatalytic cascade to be a starting point for more practical production of these chiral compounds with two-component flavoprotein monooxygenases.

- The Stereoselective Oxidation of para-Substituted Benzenes by a Cytochrome P450 Biocatalyst
-
The serine 244 to aspartate (S244D) variant of the cytochrome P450 enzyme CYP199A4 was used to expand its substrate range beyond benzoic acids. Substrates, in which the carboxylate group of the benzoic acid moiety is replaced were oxidised with high activity by the S244D mutant (product formation rates >60 nmol.(nmol-CYP)?1.min?1) and with total turnover numbers of up to 20,000. Ethyl α-hydroxylation was more rapid than methyl oxidation, styrene epoxidation and S-oxidation. The S244D mutant catalysed the ethyl hydroxylation, epoxidation and sulfoxidation reactions with an excess of one stereoisomer (in some instances up to >98 %). The crystal structure of 4-methoxybenzoic acid-bound CYP199A4 S244D showed that the active site architecture and the substrate orientation were similar to that of the WT enzyme. Overall, this work demonstrates that CYP199A4 can catalyse the stereoselective hydroxylation, epoxidation or sulfoxidation of substituted benzene substrates under mild conditions resulting in more sustainable transformations using this heme monooxygenase enzyme.

- Oxoiron(v) mediated selective electrochemical oxygenation of unactivated C-H and CC bonds using water as the oxygen source
-
An efficient electrochemical method for the selective oxidation of C-H bonds of unactivated alkanes (BDE ≤97 kcal mol-1) and CC bonds of alkenes using a biomimetic iron complex, [(bTAML)FeIII-OH2]-, as the redox mediator in an undivided electrochemical cell with inexpensive carbon and nickel electrodes is reported. The O-atom of water remains the source of O-incorporation in the product formed after oxidation. The products formed upon oxidation of C-H bonds display very high regioselectivity (75:1, 3°:2° for adamantane) and stereo-retention (RC ~99% for cyclohexane derivatives). The substrate scope includes natural products such as cedryl acetate and ambroxide. For alkenes, epoxides were obtained as the sole product. Mechanistic studies show the involvement of a high-valent oxoiron(v) species, [(bTAML)FeV(O)]- formed via PCET (overall 2H+/2e-) from [(bTAML)FeIII-OH2]- in CPE at 0.80 V (vs. Ag/AgNO3). Moreover, electrokinetic studies for the oxidation of C-H bonds indicate a second-order reaction with the C-H abstraction by oxoiron(v) being the rate-determining step.

- Magnetically recoverable porphyrin-based nanocatalysts for the effective oxidation of olefins with hydrogen peroxide: A comparative study
-
In this paper, preparation, characterization and catalytic applications of metalloporphyrin-based magnetic nanocatalysts were investigated. meso-Tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrinatoiron(iii) chloride (Fe(TCPP)Cl) and meso-tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl)porphyrinatomanganese(iii) acetate (Mn(TCPP)OAc) were separately immobilized onto the surface of amine functionalized magnetic nanoparticles (Fe3O4/SiO2/NH2) via covalent attachment. The obtained nanocatalysts were characterized using FT-IR and UV-Vis and atomic absorption spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The catalytic efficiency of Fe3O4/SiO2/NH2-Fe(TCPP)Cl and Fe3O4/SiO2/NH2-Mn(TCPP)OAc for the green oxidation of alkenes with H2O2 was investigated in a comparative manner. The Mn-porphyrin based magnetic nanocatalyst shows higher catalytic efficiency compared to the Fe-porphyrin. In addition, the prepared magnetic nanocatalyst exhibited excellent reusability and could be reused at least five times without significant leaching or loss of activity. This journal is

- An effective strategy for creating asymmetric MOFs for chirality induction: A chiral Zr-based MOF for enantioselective epoxidation
-
Recently the construction of chiral MOFs (CMOFs) has been very challenging and complex. For the first time, we synthesized a chiral Zr-based MOF with l-tartaric acid by solvent-assisted ligand incorporation (SALI). We show that a CMOF can be postsynthetically generated by a simple method: incorporating chiral carboxylic groups on the achiral NU-1000. The post-synthesized chiral NU-1000 was used as an asymmetric support for producing a chiral catalyst with molybdenum catalytic active centers as Lewis acid sites. Enantioselective epoxidation of various prochiral alkens to epoxids by using [C-NU-1000-Mo] is comparable to that using other asymmetric homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts, along with high enantiomeric excess and selectivity to epoxide (up to 100%). The CMOF could be reused in the styrene oxidation after five cycles without substantial deterioration in the CMOF crystallinity or catalytic performance.

- A mononuclear tantalum catalyst with a peroxocarbonate ligand for olefin epoxidation in compressed CO2
-
A new class of tantalum-based peroxocarbonate ionic liquid ([P4,4,4,4]3[Ta(η2-O2)3(CO4)]) has been generated through the reaction of pressurized CO2 with [P4,4,4,4]3[Ta(O)3(η2-O2)] in the presence of H2O2 during the reaction process. The newly formed species has been verified by NMR, FT-IR, HRMS and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The CO2-induced monomeric peroxocarbonate anion-based ionic liquid is more advantageous than the monomeric peroxotantalate analogue for the epoxidation of olefins under very mild conditions. Interestingly, the transformation between peroxotantalate and peroxocarbonate species is completely reversible, and CO2 can actually act as a trigger agent for epoxidation reaction. The further mechanism studies by DFT calculation reveal that peroxo η2-O2 (site a) affords higher reactivity towards the CC bond than that of peroxocarbonate-CO4 (site b). These quantitative illustrations of the relationship between structural properties and kinetic consequences enable rational design for an efficient and environmental IL catalyst for the epoxidation of olefins.

- Highly selective and efficient olefin epoxidation with pure inorganic-ligand supported iron catalysts
-
Over the past two decades, there have been major developments in the transition iron-catalyzed selective oxidation of alkenes to epoxides; a common structure found in drug, isolated natural products, and fine chemicals. Many of these approaches have enabled highly efficient and selective epoxidation of alkenes via the design of specialized ligands, which facilitates to control the activity and selectivity of the reactions catalyzed by iron atom. Herein, we report the development of the olefin epoxidation with inorganic-ligand supported iron-catalysts using 30% H2O2 as an oxidant, and the mechanism is similar to iron-porphyrin type. With the catalyst 1, (NH4)3[FeMo6O18(OH)6], various aromatic and aliphatic alkenes were successfully transformed into the corresponding epoxides with excellent yields as well as chemo- and stereo-selectivity. This catalytic system possesses the advantages of being able to avoid the use of expensive, toxic, air/moisture sensitive and commercially unavailable organic ligands. The generality of this methodology is simple to operate and exhibits high catalytic activity as well as excellent stability, which gives it the potential to be used on an industrial scale, and maybe opens a way for the catalytic oxidation reaction via inorganic-ligand coordinated iron catalysis.

The invention relates to a method for preparing an epoxide by one-pot olefin aerobic epoxidation, and belongs to the technical field of organic synthesis. An olefin, an alkyl aromatic compound and analkali are added into a solvent, or an olefin, an alkyl aromatic compound and an alkali are directly mixed; the temperature is raised to 70-160 DEG C in an air or oxygen atmosphere; reacting is carried out for 1-48 hours; and the olefin is directly oxidized into the corresponding epoxide in the presence of the alkyl aromatic compound, the alkali and air (or oxygen), wherein the yield is up to 99%.In the reaction process, the generated alkyl peroxide is generated in situ and consumed in situ, so that the concentration of the alkyl peroxide is kept at a lower level; and generated alkyl peroxy free radicals can also react with the olefin to further generate the peroxide, and efficiency is improved. The method has the advantages of simple operation, mild conditions, low raw material cost andno need of special complex equipment, and has a good industrial application prospect.

Chiral neutral cages of formula [(Pd3X*)4(C6O4Cl2)6] ([X*]3- = RRR- or SSS-[PO(N(*CH(CH3)Ph)3]3-) are constructed from Pd3 building units supported by tris(imido)phosphate trianions and chloranilate linkers. These cages exhibit considerable enantioselective separation capabilities toward a series of styrene epoxides via a crystallization inclusion method. A highest enantiomeric excess (ee) value of up to 80% is achieved for the (R)-4-fluorostyrene oxide.

- Asymmetric synthesis of α-bromohydrins by carrot root as biocatalyst and conversion to enantiopure β-hydroxytriazoles and styrene oxides using click chemistry and SN2 ring-closure
-
In this study we have combined the bioreduction of α-bromoketones using carrot root as biocatalyst and click chemistry for the preparation of enantiopure β-hydroxytriazoles in excellent enantiomeric excesses and yields. Moreover, we have utilized chiral α-halohydrins for the synthesis of enantiopure styrene oxides in very good yields and enantiomeric excesses. Structural assignments of the products were based on their 1H and 13C NMR data and their optical rotations. The enantiomeric excess of the chiral products was obtained by HPLC analysis.

- Multicore Artificial Metalloenzymes Derived from Acylated Proteins as Catalysts for the Enantioselective Dihydroxylation and Epoxidation of Styrene Derivatives
-
Artificial metalloenzymes (AME′s) are an interesting class of selective catalysts, where the chiral environment of proteins is used as chiral ligand for a catalytic metal. Commonly, the active site of an enzyme is modified with a catalytically active metal. Here we present an approach, where the commercial proteins lysozyme (LYS) and bovine serum albumin (BSA) can be converted into highly active and enantioselective AME′s. This is achieved by acylation of the proteins primary amino groups, which affords the metal salts in the core of the protein. A series of differently acylated LYS and BSA were reacted with K2OsO2(OH)4, RuCl3, and Ti(OMe)4, respectively, and the conjugates were tested for their catalytic activity in dihydroxylation and epoxidation of styrene and its derivatives. The best suited system for dihydroxylation is fully acetylated LYS conjugated with K2OsO2(OH)4, which converts styrene to 1,2-phenylethanediol with an enantioselectivity of 95 % ee (S). BSA fully acylated with hexanoic acid and conjugated with three moles RuCl3 per mole protein shows the highest ee values for the conversion of styrene to the respective epoxide with enenatioselectivities of over 80 % ee (R), a TON of more than 2500 and a yield of up to 78 % within 24 h at 40 °C. LYS has two favored selective binding sites for the metal catalyst and BSA has even three. The AME′s with titanate in the active center invert the enantioselectivity of styrene epoxidation.

- Copper based coordination polymers based on metalloligands: Utilization as heterogeneous oxidation catalysts
-
This work presents the synthesis and characterization of two Cu(ii)-based coordination polymers prepared by utilizing two different Co(iii)-based metalloligands offering appended arylcarboxylic acid groups. Both coordination polymers are three-dimensional in nature and present pores and channels filled with water molecules. Both coordination polymers function as heterogeneous catalysts for the epoxidation of various olefins using O2 while employing isobutyraldehyde as the coreductor and for peroxide-mediated oxidation of assorted benzyl alcohols. The catalytic results illustrate efficient oxidation reactions, whereas the hot-fltration test and leaching experiments indicate the true heterogeneous nature of the catalysis.

- Microwave-assisted copper-catalyzed stereoselective ring expansion of three-membered heterocycles with α-diazo-β-dicarbonyl compounds
-
Microwave-assisted copper-catalyzed ring expansions of three-membered heterocycles with α-diazo-β-dicarbonyl compounds were investigated. Thiiranes generated 3-acyl-5,6-dihydro-1,4-oxathiines in the presence of copper sulfate and trans-3-acyl-5,6-dihydro-1,4-oxathiines as stereospecific products for 1,2-disubstituted cis-thiiranes through an intramolecular SN2 process. Oxiranes gave rise to 2-acyl-5,6-dihydro-1,4-dioxines under the catalysis of copper hexafluoroacetylacetonate and cis-3-acyl-5,6-dihydro-1,4-dioxines as stereospecific products for 1,2-disubstituted cis-oxiranes via an intimate ion-pair mechanism. The current method provides a direct and simple strategy in efficient preparation of 3-acyl-5,6-dihydro-1,4-oxathiines and 2-acyl-5,6-dihydro-1,4-dioxines, important agents in medicinal and agricultural chemistry, from readily available thiiranes and oxiranes, respectively.

- Dearomative [2,3] sigmatropic rearrangement of ammonium ylides followed by 1,4-elimination to form α-(ortho-vinylphenyl)amino acid esters
-
A base-induced dearomative [2,3] sigmatropic rearrangement of amino acid ester-derived ammonium salts followed by 1,4-elimination produced α-(ortho-vinylphenyl)amino acid esters. The reaction of azetidine-2-carboxylic acid-derived ammonium salt, (1S,2S,1′R)-3b, proceeded with a perfect N-to-C chirality transfer to afford α-(ortho-vinylphenyl)azetidine-2-carboxylic acid ester, (R)-5 (99% ee). On the other hand, the reaction of glycine-derived ammonium salt (R)-6a, which involves an efficient chirality transfer from a chiral benzylic carbon to an α-carbon of an ester carbonyl giving the optically active α-(ortho-vinylphenyl)glycine ester, (R)-8a (85% ee), was demonstrated. Although this dearomative [2,3] rearrangement followed by 1,4-elimination has limitations with regard to the structures of the substrates, our method provides unique access to substituted α-arylamino acid derivatives.

- Bioinspired Manganese Complexes and Graphene Oxide Synergistically Catalyzed Asymmetric Epoxidation of Olefins with Aqueous Hydrogen Peroxide
-
Bioinspired manganese complexes of N4ligands and graphene oxide (GO) synergistically catalyze the highly enantioselective epoxidation of olefins (up to 99% ee), which is a rare example with GO as a co-catalyst in asymmetric catalysis. GO as a new and key additive not only successfully functions in catalytic amounts, but also has a positive effect for improving the enantioselectivity of the asymmetric epoxidation compared with the traditional stoichiometric organic carboxylic acid method [e.g., chalcone, 95% ee (3.5 mg GO) vs. 84% ee (5 equiv., 75 mg acetic acid), ethyl cinnamate, 84% ee (3.5 mg GO) vs. 19% ee (5 equiv., 75 mg acetic acid)]. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) spectra of GO before and after the reaction indicate that the intensities of C–O become stronger after the reaction, which may have a certain relationship with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and gives a reasonable rationale for the large consumption of H2O2. Also, part of the hydrogen peroxide was used for the oxidation of GO. (Figure presented.).

- Oxidation of olefins using molecular oxygen catalyzed by a part per million level of recyclable copper catalyst under mild conditions
-
Copper catalysts with an imidazole salt tag ([Cu-Imace-R-H][X], X- = F-, Cl-, Br-, I-, CF3CO2-, HSO4-, NO3-, PF6- or BF4-; R = H or CH3) show quite high reactivity for the oxidation of non-aromatic olefins with good selectivity for epoxides. The reactions perform well with a part per million (ppm) catalyst loading at mild temperature and ambient pressure. The highest turnover frequency (TOF) reaches up to 900:000 h-1. The catalytic activity is easy to control by changing the anion of [Cu-Imace-R-H][X]. This catalyst is effective for a series of substrates, including internal and terminal olefins, tri- and tetra-substituted olefins and aromatic olefins. In addition, the copper catalyst can be conveniently separated from the reaction system and reused for at least six cycles without any obvious loss of catalytic activity.

Abstract: Layered 2D organic–inorganic hybrid perovskite (OIHS) of the diammonium series, 1,5 di-aminepentane tetrachloro mangenate ([NH3–(CH2)5–NH3] MnCl4) was prepared by slow evaporation and reducing temperature method and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Its structure consists of organic cation, [NH3(CH2)5NH3]+2 extended in a zigzag fashion and inorganic anion, [MnCl6]?2 where Mn2+ is coordinated by six Cl? ion in octahedral fashion. The organic and inorganic segments are alternately stacked along c-axis where inorganic layer is extended through corner-shared octahedra sandwiched by the di-aminopentane molecules. The layers (organic and inorganic) were connected to each other through N–HCl hydrogen bonds and van-der Waals interaction to build cation–anion–cation cohesion. The hybrid crystal had orthorhombic non-centrosymetric system having I212121 space group with unit cell parameters a = 7.1742(3) ?, b = 7.3817(3) ?, c = 23.9650(10) ?, V = 1269.13 ?3 and Z = 4. The hybrid exhibited excellent catalytic activity towards sulphide and alkene oxidation using aqueous H2O2 as an oxidant. Graphical Abstract: OIHS of the diammonium series [NH3–(CH2)5–NH3] MnCl4; 1,5 di-aminepentane tetrachloro mangenate were prepared by slow evaporation and temperature decrease method, characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. - Biocatalytic Formal Anti-Markovnikov Hydroamination and Hydration of Aryl Alkenes
-
Biocatalytic anti-Markovnikov alkene hydroamination and hydration were achieved based on two concepts involving enzyme cascades: epoxidation-isomerization-amination for hydroamination and epoxidation-isomerization-reduction for hydration. An Escherichia coli strain coexpressing styrene monooxygenase (SMO), styrene oxide isomerase (SOI), ω-transaminase (CvTA), and alanine dehydrogenase (AlaDH) catalyzed the hydroamination of 12 aryl alkenes to give the corresponding valuable terminal amines in high conversion (many ≥86%) and exclusive anti-Markovnikov selectivity (>99:1). Another E. coli strain coexpressing SMO, SOI, and phenylacetaldehyde reductase (PAR) catalyzed the hydration of 12 aryl alkenes to the corresponding useful terminal alcohols in high conversion (many ≥80%) and very high anti-Markovnikov selectivity (>99:1). Importantly, SOI was discovered for stereoselective isomerization of a chiral epoxide to a chiral aldehyde, providing some insights on enzymatic epoxide rearrangement. Harnessing this stereoselective rearrangement, highly enantioselective anti-Markovnikov hydroamination and hydration were demonstrated to convert α-methylstyrene to the corresponding (S)-amine and (S)-alcohol in 84-81% conversion with 97-92% ee, respectively. The biocatalytic anti-Markovnikov hydroamination and hydration of alkenes, utilizing cheap and nontoxic chemicals (O2, NH3, and glucose) and cells, provide an environmentally friendly, highly selective, and high-yielding synthesis of terminal amines and alcohols.

- Multistep Organic Transformations over Base-Rhodium/Diamine-Bifunctionalized Mesostructured Silica Nanoparticles
-
The assembly of multiple catalytic functionalities within a single mesoporous silica as a catalyst for multistep enantioselective organic transformations in an environmentally friendly medium is a significant challenge in heterogeneous asymmetric catalysis. Herein, we took advantage of a BF4 ? anion hydrogen bonding strategy to anchor a chiral cationic rhodium/diamine complex within base-functionalized mesostructured silica nanoparticles conveniently to construct a bifunctional heterogeneous catalyst. The solid-state 13C NMR spectrum discloses the well-defined chiral Rh/diamine active species, and we used XRD, N2 adsorption–desorption, and electron microscopy to reveal the ordered mesostructure. The combination of bifunctionality in the silica nanoparticles enables two kinds of efficient enantioselective organic transformations with high yields and enantioselectivities, in which the asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of α-haloketones followed by epoxidation provides various chiral aryloxiranes, and the amination of α-haloketones with anilines followed by asymmetric transfer hydrogenation produces various β-amino alcohols. Furthermore, the catalyst can be recovered and recycled for seven times without a loss of catalytic activity, which is an attractive feature for multistep organic transformations in a sustainable benign process.

A practical and convenient method for the efficient and regio- and stereoselective ring-opening of enantiopure monosubstituted epoxides by sodium azide under hydrolytic conditions is reported. The ring-opening of enantiopure styryl and pyridyl (S)-epoxides by N3- in hot water takes place preferentially at the internal position with complete inversion of configuration to produce (R)-2-azido ethanols with up to 99% enantio- and regioselectivity, while the (S)-adamantyl oxirane provides mainly the (S)-1-adamantyl-2-azido ethanol in excellent yield. In general, 1,2-amino ethanols were obtained in high yield and excellent enantiopurity by the reduction of the chiral 1,2-azido ethanols with PPh3 in water/THF, and then converted into the Boc or acetamide derivatives.

Five inorganic-organic hybrid vanadates based on tetravanadate cores, transition metals and N-donor ligands have been designed and synthesized under hydrothermal conditions, namely, [Zn(eIM)3]2V4O12 (1), [Zn(pIM)3]2V4O12·H2O (2), [Zn(ipIM)3]2V4O12 (3), [Co(eIM)3]2V4O12·H2O (4), [Cu(eIM)2(H2O)]2V4O12 (5) (eIM = 1-ethylimidazole, pIM = 1-propylimidazole, ipIM = isopropylimidazole). All compounds were fully characterized by single-crystal XRD, powder XRD, elemental analysis, TGA, and FT-IR spectroscopy. The hybrid zinc vanadates (1-3) and cobalt vanadate (4) exhibit interesting 2D folded structures and the hybrid copper vanadate (5) presents a 1D chain configuration. All compounds can catalyze olefin epoxidation reactions when using TBHP (TBHP = tert-butyl hydroperoxide) as an oxidant in acetonitrile. The introduction of transition metal ions into tetravanadate cores not only improved the catalytic activity but also fulfilled the heterogeneous catalytic behavior. 1-5 all exhibit extraordinary efficiency in converting olefins to the corresponding epoxides with high conversion and selectivity (particularly, conv. up to 97.1%, sele. up to 100% for 1). Leaching test was also carried out to prove the heterogeneous behavior.
