Pyrazole and Nicotinonitrile Derivatives Synthesized from Sulfa Drugs, and Their Antibacterial Activity
Utility of sulfadiazine and sulfaguanidine in synthesis of new series of pyrazoles and 2-pyridones is described. Diazotization of sulfadiazine that results in formation of diazonium salt 2 followed by coupling of the latter with active methylene compounds

Synthesis, characterisation and antibacterial screening of metal-substituted N-phenyl-3-methyl-4(4'-sulphonamoyl)-phenylhydrazono-pyrazolin-5-one
A number of metal-substituted N-phenyl-3-methyl-4(4'-sulphonamoyl)-phenylhydrazono-pyrazolin-5-one 1 complexes have been synthesised and screened for antibacrterial activity. The study reveals the remarkable efficiency of Cu(II) and Co(II)-substituted pyrazolin-5-one 1 complexes against the various stain of bacteria, viz. E. Coli 445, Pseudomonas diminuta MTCC 1609 and Bacillus subtitis MTCC 441. The synthesised compounds exhibit moderate to good antibacterial activity. The most striking feature has been the activity of Cu-substituted pyrazolin-5-one complexes, which have been found to be uniformly active against E. Coli.
PART II. APPLICATION TO SOME 1-PHENYL-3-METHYL-4-AZOSULPHONAMIDO-5-PYRAZOLONE DYES
The Vilsmeier-Haak reaction on 3-methylpyrazolone azosulfonamide derivatives (1,2) has been shown to lead to chlorination of the 5-oxopyrazolone system in addition to diformylation of the 3-methyl group to give the corresponding aminoacroleins (3,4) respe
