the images taken at higher magnifications resolved Mg
distributions in the pyramidal neuron layer of the CA1
region (Figure 3c and d), where intracellular Zn is essen-
tially nonexistent. Furthermore, a closer examination of the
image shown in Figure 3d revealed that this probe could also
detect Mg ions in the nucleus in the deep tissue. These
results demonstrate that AMg1 is capable of detecting
endogenous stores of labile Mg at 100–300 mm depth in
live tissues using TPM.
