Hydroformylation

In the first step, the allylbenzene derivative is subjected to hydroformylation, which is also known as the Oxo reaction. This reaction typically involves the use of carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen gas (H2) in the presence of the rhodium catalyst. The double bond in the allyl group reacts with CO and H2 to form an aldehyde group.
